A
Portal For The Community and a Gateway to The World
A
community center:
The
Josiah
Quincy
School
moved to its present
Washington Street
location in 1976, and the facilities were built with the community in mind. The
building, standing out with its mural based on drawings by neighborhood
children, is a portal for vital social services. The
South
Cove
Community
Health
Center
on the ground floor provides medical and dental care and other health services.
The
Boston
Chinatown
Neighborhood
Center
operates its Red Oak After School program in the
Quincy
School
building. BCNC has extensive outreach services, including childcare,
recreation, and adult education. Even on the weekends, the school building is
buzzing with language classes and meetings of neighborhood groups.
Access
to the world: The
Quincy
School
’s location downtown gives students access to world-class institutions. The
school has set up educational partnerships with organizations such as the
Children’s Museum, Big Brother/Big Sister, MIT,
Tufts
University
,
Northeastern
University
, and the
New England
Medical
Center
. Proximity to
Boston
’s cultural and professional centers opens up young people’s minds to global
possibilities. Lessons in the classroom are connected to the world at large
through field trips and guest speakers.
