The Dillaway Thomas
House
The Dillaway Thomas House is the first site on the
Roxbury Heritage Trail. It was built in the mid-eighteenth century.
After many restorations and expansions by the Department of Environmental
Management, it is ready for public use. This house provides people
with opportunities to explore Roxburys rich history as well
as its cultural, social, and economic development issues in the community.
In 1750, Rev. Oliver Peabody built the House in the John Elliot Square.
It served as headquarters for Gen. John Thomas and the Continental
Army during the siege of Boston in 1775. Later it became the family
home of Charles K. Dillaway. In 1927, it was purchased by the city
of Boston and became the Roxbury Historical Society.
