
Our school is divided into five Small Learning Communities (SLC): ACE Academy led by Liana Tuller, CAS Academy led by Steve Cassidy, Diploma Plus led by Sunny Pai, Chinese and Spanish SEI communities led by Chikae Yamauchi and Dora Yu.
Charlestown High School also provides a wide range of Special Education Services to students who are identified with a disability and have an IEP. Laura Pirani is the Director of Special Education.
We provide a strong academic program, with 10 college-level Advanced Placement courses and signature courses such as Forensic Science and Arabic. Over 80% of our students passed the MCAS on the first try and we have outperformed all other Boston district high schools in the combined ELA and math "Proficiency Index" for the past three years. Last year 83% of our students to college, with over half attending four year colleges like Brown, Cornell, Bates, Stanford, and Smith. For the past three years a high percentage of the students passed MCAS tests with Proficient or Advanced rating. The school received Edgerly School Leadership Award in 2001 as one of the 10 most improved schools.
